Frequently asked questions

Setup, reports and Takings Plus – explained briefly.

Getting started

What do I need for Takings?

A Mac running macOS 14 or later. To see your own store numbers you need an App Store Connect account with access to your apps and a suitable team API key. The built-in demo mode is enough to get to know the app.

Do I need a Takings account?

No. You do not have to register with Takings. You set up your store connections with your own API keys. In demo mode you can explore the views with sample data and no store connection.

How do I connect App Store Connect?

Create a team API key with suitable report access. You need the private .p8 file, Key ID, Issuer ID and your vendor number. Enter them in Takings under “Settings → Accounts → App Store Connect → Add”. The detailed setup guide explains the individual steps and permissions. Never send your private key to support.

Data and reports

Why am I seeing yesterday’s numbers?

Apple makes daily reports available with a delay. Takings shows the latest available report day, not live sales, so numbers from yesterday are normal. The data status can be green when the expected recent reports are present and there is no connection problem. You can see historical gaps in the details.

What do gaps or a dash instead of a number mean?

The matching reports or a required exchange rate are missing for this view. That does not mean you had no downloads or proceeds. Open “Data status” at the bottom of the sidebar and check the affected connection and period. More help is on the support page.

How far back can I look?

The free version includes the 7- and 30-day views. Plus adds, among other things, the 90-day view and retrieval of up to 365 days. How many reports can actually be loaded depends on Apple’s availability. Takings backfills available data in the background while the app is running; missing days are never invented.

Privacy and features

Where are my data and API keys stored?

Your store reports and saved reviews are stored locally on your Mac. Takings keeps private API keys in the macOS Keychain. For Plus purchases, RevenueCat processes purchase and entitlement data; your store reports and private API keys are not transmitted for this. Details are in the privacy policy.

Can I try every view without real data?

Yes. Choose “Keep exploring the demo” on first launch, or turn on “Demo mode” under “Settings → General”. The demo shows the features with sample data, separate from your real connections. Demo changes are discarded when you leave; no real store request or purchase is triggered.

What do I need for the AI insights?

Takings Plus, macOS 26 and Apple Intelligence turned on, on a supported Mac. Insights and reply drafts are created on the device. You review and use review reply drafts yourself – Takings does not publish replies. The other core features already run on macOS 14.

Can I connect Google Play?

The optional Plus connection is under “Settings → Accounts → Google Play”. It stores original reports in the archive and retrieves reviews. Google Play reports are not yet included in the metric tiles.

Takings Plus

What is free and what belongs to Plus?

For free you can use one App Store Connect account with all its apps, the 7- and 30-day views, core metrics and ratings. Plus adds, among other things, longer history, multiple accounts, subscription metrics and on-device AI features. You see the current offers and prices in the app before you buy. More information is available under plans and terms (German).

How do I restore purchases or cancel a subscription?

Open “Settings → Takings Plus” and use “Restore purchases” with the same Apple Account you bought with. You manage and cancel a subscription in your Apple Account’s subscriptions. Deleting Takings does not cancel a subscription. The support page links to the relevant Apple help articles.
